Our Story
At Bespoke Documentaries, we lead the charge in crafting personal documentaries for individuals, families, and organizations seeking to immortalize their legacies.
Our story began when our founder was recognized with an Emmy for her inaugural documentary. With a background entrenched in commercial filmmaking, directing a documentary offered her a chance to explore a more authentic narrative. Liberated from commercial constraints, she rediscovered her love of filmmaking.
Thus, Bespoke was born, driven by the sole purpose of championing the genuine stories of real people. Our pledge is to safeguard these narratives for posterity - employing the finesse of professional filmmaking to capture and immortalize stories that resonate across time.

be·spoke (adjective) [bi-ˈspōk]:
Originating from the verb ‘bespeak,’ meaning ‘to speak for something.’ The adjective ‘bespoken’ refers to items ‘ordered, commissioned, or arranged for.’
Over time, the term became linked with tailor-made clothing and accessories. A bespoke item is meticulously designed and made uniquely for the discerning customer, reflecting their personal taste and requirements.

Meet Our Founder, Ria Ruthsatz
She’s an Emmy award-winning director who’s produced commercials around the country, and developed fundraising films that have raised millions for important causes worldwide.
In her own words… “I have always loved a well-crafted story. This passion was likely ingrained in me by the generations of talented storytellers in my family tree. From writers to photographers, artists, and even a celebrated filmmaker, I like to think I've inherited an artistic spirit.
My grandfather was a pioneer in the film industry, earning the distinction of being the first television cameraman inducted into the Greater New Orleans Broadcasting Hall of Fame. His films and accolades are well-documented, but sadly, I never had the chance to explore his personal thoughts on his achievements. I have a handful of stories, passed on by others and only partially remembered.
Fast forward a few decades, and I’ve had my own career in filmmaking. In 2015 I co-founded Tree9 Films, a St. Louis-based commercial film production company, with my husband Chadwell. Our work provides us unique opportunities to go behind the scenes with companies and organizations - discovering who they are at their core and exploring ways to share their story with their clients.
While brands understand the importance of crafting compelling narratives, families often overlook the strength of their own stories. Our histories shape us profoundly, and I don’t believe documentaries should be reserved for sensational stories or famous faces. Every individual holds a unique story worth sharing. This belief inspired the creation of Bespoke Documentaries - an endeavor aimed at preserving these invaluable narratives.
Our work at Bespoke Documentaries stems from years of professional experience in crafting films that resonate deeply with audiences. We meticulously craft these documentaries because our intent is to capture not just who you were or are, but also who you'll be in the memories of generations to come. It's for the grandchildren who may never have the chance to ask, but who share your spirit and may one day walk in your footsteps.”

“Consider the worth of a single picture - 1,000 words. Now, imagine the immeasurable value of an oral history when captured on camera.
These films give voice to countless untold stories, encapsulating human experiences that transcend generations.”
